India is a country of colors and celebration, same goes for Indian weddings. Here an Indian wedding ceremony called haldi ceremony, like other occasions, usually marked by a lot of customs and traditions.

A number of rites and rituals are religiously followed to this day when Indian wedding ceremonies are held. When celebrating this ceremony you will understand why this ceremony has been named haldi ceremony.

This pre marriage event, which is held in both the groom and bride places. Bride and groom are smeared in turmeric (haldi). Traditionally speaking, turmeric adds beauty to the bride and its is applied for complexion.

Party 4

For "shagun" (engagement) the bride's family goes to the groom's house with all kinds of sweet, fruits and other gifts of clothes and jewelry.

The girl's father (in his absence the brother or any other elderly male member of the family) gives the groom-to-be a gold ring, a "kara" (bangle) with a minimum of eleven gold mohra (sovereigns). These are later strung in to a black thread and put around the girl's neck after the wedding.

Pre-wedding Parties
